Weyell, I swear I saw a Purple Finch at my thistle sock feeder last year! I'm quite sure it wasn't a male House Finch; I was wearing my glasses and had binoculars. So I'll be keeping an eye peeled for that handsome feller! That, and Dark-eyed Juncos have recently taken up my ground feeder, feasting on the cracked corn I put out. I've heard Chickadees all around, definitely hoping to catch one at a feeder; in fact, I'm putting up a suet feeder soon in hopes of attracting one, or two, or a Woodpecker. Not too many exotic and exciting birds around here, but I still enjoy waking up to their familiar twittering. :) How about yourself?

:) Thank you! I was reading my newest issue of BWD (Bird Watchers Digest) the other day, and I came across the Aplomado Falcon. Its beauty took me away :P
But hey, we haven't talked in a while! How have you been? Excited for Christmas and the wintering birds? :)

Hey! :D I like your new pic! The horizontal stripes on that Cooper's Hawk's tail are really visible. I also love the white trim on the tip of its tail feathers. :)

Hey can we be friends? In my neighborhood, i'm considered an expert when it comes to birds of prey. People call me, "The Girl Who Loves Stuff With Big Talons"! And I find it amazing that you like TFK and Disciple. Btw, Wyoming is my favorite state. :P
This one does, I believe.
This one does, I believe. Some aren't as similar but I see what you mean! The size difference is another distinguishing characteristic as well as their calls.

Thanks! :) I try to do a different bird every day, and I post a short fact about them on my profile. I still love your Cooper's hawk pic, though! It's really cool, and unlike most of mine, looks good on the boards.

Hahaha! I've seen them at my feeder too. Maybe put up another feeder? The number of birds it'll attract should be enough to scare it off. Once, a Red-Winged Blackbird, a Brown-Headed Cowbird, a House Sparrow, a House Finch, and a squirrel all fed underneath a feeder that spilled a bunch of mixed seed! None of them fought, chased one another off, it was perfectly peaceful! :)
I dont know, lol! Right now I've gotten hooked on Phantom of The Opera (My friend's obsessed with it and now I am too!) and so I've been listening to some of that. So I'm kind of listening to other music to pass the time.
WOW that sounds awesome. And it's a British Goldfinch, and it looks NOTHING like the american one, you're right!
Man, i REALLY wish that we lived in a more nature-friendly place!
This morning, I saw a Mourning Dove on the sidewalk, not even 10 feet away from the house. I took some bread out to it, i was NOT EVEN 4 feet away, and it was perfectly unafraid of me! I had ALMOST feed it some bread, when a smoking lady shouted, 'HELLOOO!" and the Dove flew off, startled by her. :(
Hi. I'm not sure if you and I have ever chatted before (it seems like I commented on your profile maybe once, but I don't know for sure). Yeah, "Courageous" was a rockin' movie (and book...if you like reading, and you've already seen the movie, I totally recommend the novel!). But if you haven't seen it yet, let me suggest that you have a box of Kleenex's on hand, because it is a tear-jerker. It does have a sad part, but the whole movie isn't sad. It's just emotional and heartwarming, and it has some pretty hilarious scenes! So, I was skimming through your profile info and noticed that you apparently like hawks. Where I live, we see hawks quite a bit. I love to watch them soar and glide through the sky on a warm summer day...they make such beautiful bird calls. Hey, I'm sorry I didn't respond to you sooner. As I've told a lot of my other online friends, I don't get on Skillet.com all that much these days, although there was a time when I was seriously addicted to this website. Anyway, talk to you later, maybe. God bless you.

There are a LOT of red-winged blackbirds that come. They're all feeding on the ground and once you walk by they all fly away. Right now I'm listening to some TFK and they're pretty good!

wow, you are SO luck! I live in illinois, and the rarest bird i've ever seen (and i spend a LOT of time birdwatching) was a Purple Finch. but did you really see Ospreys? I LOVE their plumage!
