hi im a 14 year old boy named Matthew i love skillet and alot of different rock/metal bands and always had mixed thought and feelings about Christianity and i always thought you couldn't rock out and sing lyrics (couldnt think what type of lyrics) but since i found the christian rock/metal genre i was surprised, i have always had a passion for music and i wanna learn bass but i mainly go vocals (still getting the hang of) and lyric writing but maybe thought about becoming a christian but i dont know how to exactly do both and i know how to Kinda be a christian but still trying to go a period of time without sinning i guess and since skillet can do it so well and still live a amazing life style i wondered if anyone could help me do the same.

Being a Christian is a
Being a Christian is a struggle. Take if from me. I have been a Christian since 2008, and I'm almost 18 (got saved at the same age that you are at now). Anyway, no where in the bible does it say being a Christian will be a walk in the park. It is an uphill battle. My suggestion is to read Acts through Jude. There are about 9 people who do the "talking," but these guys were radical Christians in all rights. They went through persecution and trial and hardship, but they are now in Heaven with Jesus because they remained true in their walk. Did they mess up? Sure, but they weren't perfect. Will we mess up today? Sure, for the exact same reason that the early Apostles did.

i see what your saying, being a christian can be hard at times, but that doesn't that your not a christian still, everybody makes mistakes. I think SKILLETWOLF pretty much summed it up for you. Good question though.

I agree with everyone. Christianity isn't a bunch of do's and don'ts. All you need is a relationship with God. I'll admit I hardly go to church, don't read the Bible as much as I should, and I don't pray every night. But I try. And I believe I am a greater Christian than some people that do that stuff. All you need is faith, trust, hope, and love. And if you want to be in a Christian band, your lyrics dont need to be strictly Christian, they can be whatever you like (without bad influence) Just write what's on your heart. Take bands like TFK, Kutless, Pillar, etc., not all of their songs are about God. My advice is to learn more of what being a true Christian means (Read Bible, read other books like Sarah Young's, go to church, youth, try other Chrstians, etc.) It doesn't matter what sin you've commited as long as you ask forgivness from God and you mean it. I'd say to just be straight up with your parents and tell them how you feel. Don't worry, because God blesses all who stand up for Him and who stay with Him through anything. He will watch over you. Well, Matthew, being a Christian isn't about trying to do enough good things to get to heaven. It's about having a relationship with God and if you've confessed your sins to Him, you've been forgiven. and everyone has struggled with sin, even strong Christians, because of our human nature. just saying it is completely impossible to go times without sinning because it is human nature but it doesn't mean you aren't a christian (basically everybody sins)

couple more questions if u or anyone else can answer ive had mixed thoughts on christianity but always said yes but still gave the reason not to plus if i do how do i find christians in a small town and are willing to do the same as me and if i wanna go to church and do what christian's do how do i break to my parents i wanna be a christian after what ive been throught with them showing im more opposite then anything and as you said skillet also sin but what if like ive basically commited one of the 7 deadly sins ?

First off no one go's through sinless periods we all sin even Skillet even though it seems like they don't. And there's nothing wrong with rocking out on stage and screaming lyrics as a christian the sky's the limit on what christians can do on stage they rock out because they're proud of what they wrote and are passionate about they're faith in God that it comes out on stage.There is a way to play both metal and Christian and it's called Christian Metal.
