    Hello our lovely, amazing fans!

Life is wonderfully crazy these days!  Trying to juggle kids, husband, friends, shows, demos, new gear, etc. can be quite demanding but as I said it is a wonderfully crazy season.  This year began with one of the best tours I've ever been on: Winterjam.  I mean who can complain about a sold out arena tour?  Certainly not me!!  There is a lot of space backstage so we usually have a dressing room...which means we actually get to take showers...So yeah, I've been smelling good for the last month and haven't had to use my dry shampoo much.  O the small comforts of life:)

I have loved getting to know the other acts on this tour...It's funny how "circus folk" can have such a tight bond.  In fact, I just had an awesome conversation about road life, living for the Lord, the uniqueness of our calling and how utterly humbling it is to do this job with Kari Jobe, Dara McClean, and Blanca from Group 1 crew.  Our conclusion was not only is it humbling to do this job, but simply the fact that God would choose us and love us...totally mind-blowing.  Romans 5:8 says, "but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."  While we were still the embodiment of what He hates, He gave himself for us.  That's crazy wonderful and a constant reminder of the strength of His love toward us and the strength of His hand with us.  So perspective, perspective, perspective!!  He is so good to us all the time and we don't deserve a thing...and can't earn a thing.  Even when things are difficult, these truths trump all and we can have joy in the midst of terrible difficulty...so that was my convo today with my "circus folk" friends...and that's reflective of this tour.

I am currently installing new software so I can get the best of the crazy sounds for our next project.  John and I are daily writing and demoing...lots of work but I really enjoy this creative side of my job.  My kids are getting huge - both almost taller than me now...which I guess isn't that much of a feat but true nonetheless.  I've had some time to visit my friends at the Living Light School of Worship in Kenosha, WI.  I love this group of students and have had the best time getting involved in their lives.  This is how we met Jen for those who don't know that.  Jen is the best - she's even more amazing than you think she is...great talent, great friend, great heart...anyway for those interested check it out.   www.livinglightchurch.com/lsow.htm

Speaking of the school of worship, my friends in The Spark have released a new ep on itunes called Shine Brightly.  I got to play keys on it and it was so much fun.  If you like worship music you should definitely check it out.  It's up on itunes... http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/shine-brightly/id495280835

Lastly, we have started reading through the Bible in a year for the skilletbookclub this year.  Feel free to join anytime!  Just pick up where we are and read with us.  Once a week you will get a post from one of the Skillet family and you can post your comments underneath.  It's that simple!  Even if you've missed the last few weeks, don't feel like you have to catch up.   Just join in from where we are.  Jen will post tomorrow. Check it out: http://www.skilletbookclub.com/current-book-f9.html

I guess that's all for now - hope you can follow all my tangents!  Love you all and if you get a chance, you should really come out to Winterjam.  It's $10 at the door, 8 bands, and definitely the best Skillet show we have ever done. Look for a city near you at www.jamtour.com

    Peace,
    Korey

  • The Winter Jam Tour Spectacular 2012 is big. Really big. The arena tour puts popular Christian rock and pop bands alongside singer-songwriters and, with the diverse offerings, draws a huge crowd. The 2011 tour outpaced attendance for all other tours in the first quarter, including Bon Jovi, U2 and Lady Gaga, according to Pollstar.

This year, organizers expect it to be bigger. “After seeing more than 90,000 people make decisions for Christ during last year’s tour, we enter Winter Jam’s 17th year of ministry excited to begin the adventure of what God has in store for us – and audiences around the country,” said NewSong founding member and Winter Jam creator Eddie Carswell.

Alternative rock outfit Skillet headlines this year’s show, which will be held at the Mid-America Center on Thursday at 7 p.m. The tour will also feature former Newsboys frontman Peter Furler, Kari Jobe, Building 429, Group 1 Crew, illusionist Brock Gill, and national speaker Nick Hall. Winter Jam 2012 Tour Spectacular with Skillet and NewSong is Thursday, Feb. 16, at the MAC.

  • "So many rock bands feel like they have a reputation they have to uphold," said John Cooper, the band's lead singer and bassist. "They have the ‘sex, drugs and rock ‘n' roll' image and they think that if they tour with a Christian band, it may make them look bad or hurt their image. But some bands don't care if you believe differently from them, they just want to hear people who enjoy making music. We are still able to sing about what we feel passionate about and be true to ourselves, and at the same time we aren't turning audiences off. We don't come across as judgmental."

"We toured with Papa Roach on a co-headlining tour. They didn't come up to us and say ‘Hey, you can't talk about Jesus when you're on stage,' and we didn't say to them ‘Hey, you guys can't cuss during the show.' We could do whatever we wanted and they could do whatever they wanted. It's a mutual respect."

  • Cooper was 5 years old when he first saw the video of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” on MTV at a while hanging out at a buddy’s house. His mom didn’t like it one bit. “I came home and sang it to my mom. She gave me a whipping for singing the devil’s music,” Cooper, 36, told the Columbus Dispatch. “I wasn’t allowed to listen to rock music for years.” That, of course, changed, and over time Cooper found himself drawn to Christian rock music, both for its rocking sound and faith-filled message.

“It made me proud to have music that would stand up for my faith,” said Cooper, who really turned to Christian rock at age 14, after his mother passed away. “It reminded me that God wasn’t going to leave me and was going to protect me. I kind of decided at that point that if I ever got to play music, I would sing songs about my faith and hopefully inspire people to have hope.”
